CHILDHOOD PORTAITS

The Portrait Session

A 20-minute sitting in a private garden. Natural light, black and white, no stiff poses. I ask questions, get to know them a little, and let real expressions find their way to the surface - the surprised face, the thinking face, the one they don't even know they're making. We have fun and move around so they can relax and let their personalities shine.

These are personality-filled portraits to capture your child as you known them right now. Timeless images you'll actually want to frame.

QUESTIONS
What age are the portraits suitable for?

Any age although I recommend from 6+ months, or when they can sit unaided. The sessions work best for children who can sit and move around independently. The most interesting images happen when they're not being held still.

What if my child is shy or won't cooperate?

Most children warm up quickly once they realise I'm just asking them questions and having a chat. The sessions are calm and there's no pressure - we can explore the garden in between shots and I won't ask them to sit still for more than 5 minutes at a time. In my experience the shy ones often produce the most beautiful images.

Why black and white?

It removes distraction and keeps the focus entirely on your child's face and expression. It also means the images age beautifully and they'll look as good on your wall in twenty years as they do today.

Where are the sessions located?

The sessions take place in a private garden in Verrierdale on the Sunshine Coast. The exact address is shared once your booking is confirmed.

How long until I receive my images?

Your proof gallery arrives within two weeks of your session. Final edited images are delivered within one week of you making your selections.

Can siblings be photographed together?

Yes! Each child is photographed individually within the same session. This keeps the sitting focused and ensures every child gets their own set of images. However, I'll also capture some images of siblings together and often the group shots help to relax the children.

What should my child wear?

I recommend simple, plainer clothing but also encourage you to let your child pick their outfit. They'll feel empowered and if they choose their favourite Paw Patrol t-shirt or Spiderman outfit, it just adds to the snapshot of them at their current age. (The black and white final images also help to remove distractions!)

What should I bring?

No need to bring anything other than yourself and your children! Feel free to let them bring small toys along. Save the snacks for the car home.

Do I need to be present during the session?

Parents/carers must stay on the property throughout. Feel free to take a walk or sit in your car if you think it will distract your child having you there.

I don't want my child's photo used on social media - is this ok?

Absolutely fine. As part of your booking confirmation, you'll be sent a photo sharing consent form to sign. This includes consent for sharing images on social media and on the website and there is no obligation either way. I will never share a child's image with personal details such as name or location, and I won't tag photos unless requested by a parent/carer.
